Oliver's 8th Birthday

We celebrated Oliver's birthday back in March and it was such a great party!  I used to really try to plan out birthday parties, get creative with decorations, and try to make it pinterest worthy.  I recently read somewhere that your kids don't really care about that stuff and they mainly just want to have cake and play with their friends.  I talked to Oliver and found out exactly what he wanted and who he wanted to invite.  He wanted a Star Wars party, a Darth Vader cake, pizza pizza (Little Caeser's), and his closest people.  It was simple, wonderful, and he was beaming the whole day!

Ma, Pa, and Gigi got Oliver a basketball goal this year.  It was a hit at the party and I know he'll be spending time out there this summer.

A Star Wars party isn't complete without some light saber fights. I think that may have been Oliver's favorite part!

The only person Oliver wanted to invite to his party, besides family, was Ms. Mindy.  She is his assistant at school and he was SO happy to have her here.  She got him a game, a bag of doritos and sprite and I wish I had a picture of him opening that present. He was ecstatic!  You know him well, Ms. Mindy!

Bob and Boone (Kevin's dog) finally got to meet. They spent the day running around the back yard and they were worn out by the end of the party. It was great!

It's always hard to get everyone's schedules lined up so we actually celebrated a week before his birthday. Thank goodness we did because the pictures below are from his actual birthday! We got 10 inches of snow! Jared had an event that night but the kids and I spent the day relaxing at home.  We did a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, played in the snow, and watched movies. It was lovely!

Now on to planning Ivy's birthday party. Where Oliver wanted simple, Ivy wants unicorns, rainbows, cake, pancakes, bacon, and who knows what else she'll add to the mix. I may have to venture back onto pinterest after all. Oh girl!

Winter 2018

I don't want to be too hasty in saying this but I think winter 2018 might be slowly coming to a close. This is Indiana so there could easily be a blizzard next week but I'm hopeful that we're past the worst of it.  I'm naturally a homebody but winter makes me never want to leave the house. It also tends to be slow season for Jared which makes it much more bearable. It's time for our family to relax and just spend more time together.  I love that aspect of it! I thought I would do a quick picture post just to share what we've been up to in January and February because March is happening next week. Woohoo!!

I haven't been the best at working out this winter but I'm hoping to be back on track. I love that this little lady is always right by my side. I don't have weights for her but she always improvises. This time it happened to be Bob's dog bones!

Jared had a guy's night complete with Tappers, Escape Room, and watching Black Panther. Hopefully we find time for more of those kind of nights throughout the year. I know I have some girl's nights in the works! :)

Movie nights are a favorite for everyone in our family. This time we saw Peter Rabbit which was really cute but we also saw Wonder last month.  We had several movie nights at home as well! We just completed all the Harry Potter movies which we all really enjoyed.

Holy smokes, Bob is getting big. He turns 7 months at the end of February and he's weighing in at 63 pounds!

We celebrated Pa's 65th birthday with Mexican and cupcakes. Happy Birthday Pa!

This year we celebrated Valentine's Day with the kiddos and we went on a double date to Red Robin and Target.

Oliver just wrapped up basketball with Optimist Miracle Movers! He loved it and it will definitely be something we work on over the summer.

These two get in trouble together all the time but they have definitely become great friends!

We bought the kids devotionals for Christmas this year so that is something we've enjoyed doing with them every night. Ivy always calls them her "emotionals". I don't have it in me to correct her yet. It's just too cute!

Ivy is all about anything artsy and her craft area was getting out of control! We made a trip to IKEA and she is LOVING her new space.

We've been trying to make more frequent trips to visit grandpa. The kids enjoy picking out treats or making crafts to take him.

The weather has been a tad nicer lately so everything has melted. Bob loves running through puddles in the backyard!

Venturing out to the park on a snowy day!

 This boy LOVES snow!!!

Just a sweet smile after a basketball game. :)

Winter is cold, messy and not our favorite season but it is definitely beautiful! I've truly enjoyed the extra family time!

2017 Recap

I think I did ONE blog post in 2017 so I thought I would play catch up and just do a little recap to share some of our favorite memories. Nothing monumental happened, but it was a year full of travel, friendships, family, birthdays, and just everyday living. It's been a good year!

Oliver played every sport offered by Optimist Miracle Movers and it has been such a joy to watch him! We have made great friendships through this program and it is the most heartwarming experience watching these kiddos do their thing. They are introducing basketball to the program this year and we're excited to start that later this month.

Our kids absolutely LOVE spending time with their cousins. They are their best friends and I'm so thankful they are able to grow up with each other. We have seen them a lot this past year and already have more plans in the works for 2018.

This year we decided to repeat 1st grade for Oliver and I think it was the best choice for him. He was not ready for 2nd and he is in a much better place this year. He still has a lot of catching up to do but he has the most AMAZING teachers and supports. I don't know what we'd do without our Ms. Mindy.

Ivy started preschool this year and she absolutely loves it. She only goes a few days a week but it's a good warm up for kindergarten next year. The days she doesn't go she enjoys meeting Oliver for lunch or going on date days with daddy. Hard to believe they'll both be in all day school next year. :(

Just some fun pictures of random highlights. (Ballet recitals, Arc Encounter, Frisbee golf, bike rides, and star gazing)

We had a fun vacation visiting family in the Gatlinburg area this past summer. We went shopping, spent a day at Dollywood, climbed on rocks in the creek, went to movies, worked on jigsaw puzzles, and experimented with some baking. I always love spending time with my Tennessee family.

I grew up fishing and I've always really enjoyed it!  This year we really worked on finding local spots to take the kids so they can have some of those same experiences. I got to say, it's difficult to find a good fishing spot! Any Indiana recommendations??

We also took a vacation to Michigan with my parents and my brother and his family. I adore Michigan. I could go there for every vacation and be perfectly happy.  We're hoping to make it back up there this year for some camping.

We also spent a lot of time with friends this past year. It's so fun to see the kids interact with their friends and I always love a good girl's weekend. So thankful for the people that have been placed in our lives!

We got a camper last fall and it was such a great time. We only got to take it out once because it was towards the end of the season but I know we'll be using it A LOT! I have a feeling that most of our vacations over the next couple years will involve the camper. The kids think it's the coolest thing ever. Jared and Oliver are also hoping to take it out for a guy's weekend this year.

Thanksgiving Family Photoshoot

We got a puppy! I'm sure everyone has already seen Bob all over Facebook and Instagram but he's definitely worth a recap. He is a double doodle (labradoodle/goldendoodle mix) and we got him from one of my high school friends. He graduated from puppy class in November and he is truly the best puppy I've ever had. He has his moments but all in all he's a pretty chill dog. He's going to be a big pup, stay tuned. :)

We are doing away with our desktop and will be using laptops instead. I'm hoping that'll help with our nonexistent blogging since the computer will be much more portable. Ha, who knows?!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Looking forward to the freshness of a new year and working on some new resolutions!
